I am a working writer of short stories/novels with a BA in English from the College of Idaho, an MFA in Creative Writing from Boise State University, and a PhD in English with a Creative Writing emphasis from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
My literary short stories and poems have appeared in The Iowa Review, Zyzzyva, Hotel America, been short-listed for the Pushcart Prize, and anthologized in The Best of the West series. I got my start (and my agent) by writing literary fiction, but now I'm best known for my young adult novels, including the UNEARTHLY series and the LADY JANIE series, which I write with Jodi Meadows and Brodi Ashton. I recently finished my twelfth novel for HarperTeen, and I'm at work on the thirteenth.
I taught creative writing and literature at Pepperdine University in Southern California for eight years before I moved back to the Boise area in 2014 to be close to friends and family. I grew up in Idaho Falls.
The published-author part of my writing life has been a crazy, wonderful time, full of pinch-me moments, which you can follow on my website www.cynthiahandbooks.com, but I also love to teach and am always eager to meet my batches of new students every semester.
